The Boston Chapter of WILEF put on a program on May 1, 2019, titled “Knowing And Growing Your Value: Lessons From The General Counsel’s Office,” at host firm Fish & Richardson P.C.’s Boston office.
The two-hour breakfast and networking event featured a panel of accomplished female general counsel and chief legal officers from Momenta Pharmaceuticals (Alejandra Carvajal), Nuance Communications (Wendy Cassity), Partners Healthcare (Laura Peabody), Battery Ventures (Lizette Perez-Diesboeck), and Forward Financing (Alexis Shapiro). Moderated by Goodwin Procter partner Inez Friedman-Boyce, the panel shared their wisdom and provided practical takeaways to WILEF members and guests on how in-house attorneys can work to know and grow their value to their organizations.
The event kicked off with the diverse panel members reflecting on their own career development paths and pivotal decisions that each panelist had made over their careers. The panelists then touched on investing in knowledge, developing mentor relationships, taking professional risks, managing conflict, communicating effectively, leveraging relationships with outside counsel, negotiating for equitable compensation.
The panel was well-received by attendees. WILEF thanks the panelists and Fish & Richardson for putting together an entertaining and thought-provoking event.
